Haliotis alfredensis

''Haliotis alfredensis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Haliotidae, the abalones.
==Description==
(Original description by P. Bartsch) The given measurements for the holotype are : altitude 12 mm, length 55 mm and diameter 39.5 mm. "The shell has an elongate-ovate shape. It is irregularly mottled with chestnut brown and very pale olive buff flecks and dottings. The space between the base and the perforations is brown, with narrow radiating bands of pale olive buff which are about one-fourth as wide as the brown bands. The sculpture consists of fine, radiating, decidedly retractively slanting threads on the early whorls, which become somewhat coarser, wider, and less sharply defined on the last half turn, and numerous fine spiral lirations which become more or less wavy anteriorly. The space between, the perforations and the base is slightly concave on the posterior half and well rounded on the anterior half, and marked by the continuation of the lines of growth and wavy spiral striations. The nacre of the interior has a rosy flush, and a weak red wash within the spire. The spiral sculpture is apparent on the inside. This shell has the shape of ''Haliotis midae'', but lacks the rugose sculpture of the exterior, the sculpture resembling more that of ''Haliotis rugosa rugosa'' Lamarck, 1822, but differs from this in being much finer and more regular." 〔 (P. Bartsch (1915), Report on the Turton collection of South African marine mollusks, with additional notes on other South African shells contained in the United States National Museum; Bulletin of the United States National Museum v. 91 (1915) ) 〕
